Every NSman knows that uncertain feeling — standing at the starting line, unsure whether your push-ups and run time will be enough. This IPPT Calculator removes that uncertainty. Enter your age, log your reps and 2.4km time, and the tool tells you your score, your award tier, and how close you are to the next point — instantly.

What Is IPPT?

IPPT stands for Individual Physical Proficiency Test. It is the annual fitness assessment that all operationally ready (OR) National Servicemen in Singapore are required to complete. Administered by MINDEF, the test measures physical fitness across three stations and produces a combined score out of 100 points.

The three stations are push-ups, sit-ups, and a 2.4km run. Each station is scored separately based on your age group, and the scores are added together to determine your final result and award tier. Soldiers who score well receive financial incentives from MINDEF, and the test serves as a personal fitness benchmark that many NSmen take seriously year after year.

How the IPPT Scoring System Works

Understanding the scoring structure is the first step toward training effectively. Push-ups are worth up to 25 points. Sit-ups are also worth up to 25 points. The 2.4km run carries the most weight at up to 50 points, making your total out of 100.

Your score for push-ups and sit-ups depends on the number of repetitions completed within the time limit, measured against your age group bracket. The run score is based on your finishing time. A score of 51 or above is the minimum to pass — anything below that is a failure regardless of individual station performance.

How This IPPT Calculator Works

This calculator is built entirely around MINDEF's official 2026 scoring tables. There are no estimates or approximations — the numbers are taken directly from the actual lookup tables used to score NSmen at test stations.

Select your age and the tool identifies your age group bracket, loading the correct scoring criteria. From there, enter your push-up reps, sit-up reps, and 2.4km run time. Your total score, award tier, and the "To Next Point" column all update in real time as you change any input.

The "To Next Point" column is one of the most practical features. Rather than just showing where you stand, it tells you exactly what you need to do to earn the next point — how many additional reps for push-ups or sit-ups, or how many seconds you need to shave off your run. This turns the calculator from a passive scoring tool into an active training guide.

Age Groups and What They Mean

MINDEF divides participants into 14 age group brackets so that a 22-year-old and a 52-year-old are held to different standards. As you move into older brackets, fewer reps are required to earn the same points, and a slower run time is accepted for the same score. The calculator handles this automatically — changing your age instantly recalibrates all three scoring tables.

Under 22 22–24 25–27 28–30 31–33 34–36 37–39 40–42 43–45 46–48 49–51 52–54 55–57 58–60

Tips for Using the Calculator Before Your IPPT

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. The push-up, sit-up, and 2.4km run scoring tables in this calculator are taken directly from MINDEF's published 2026 IPPT standards. The scores produced by the tool match what you would receive at an actual IPPT test station, provided your reps and run time are accurate.

Simply select your current age from the dropdown at the top of the calculator. The tool automatically identifies your age group bracket and loads the correct scoring criteria. There are 14 age groups covering NSmen from under 22 all the way to 58–60, and you do not need to figure out your group manually.

Your passing score in previous years may have come from a different age group bracket. As you move into a new bracket — for example, from 22–24 into 25–27 — the benchmarks shift. The minimum reps required to earn each point level adjust with your new group. It is also possible that your current fitness levels differ from a year ago. Running your actual current numbers through the calculator will show exactly where you stand today.

IPPT run times are recorded and scored in 10-second intervals. If your actual time falls between two interval points — say 11:43 — it rounds to the next applicable bracket, which in this case would be 11:50. The calculator uses the same rounding logic as the official test, so you can use the 10-second steps to understand the scoring accurately.

Anyone who opens that link will see the same age, reps, and run time you entered — useful for sharing your current baseline with a training partner or coach.

Note on exemptions and deferrals: Some NSmen are granted IPPT exemptions or deferrals due to medical conditions, overseas postings, or other circumstances. This calculator covers the standard IPPT test using 2026 MINDEF scoring tables. If you are on an exemption or alternative assessment, check with your unit or NS portal for your specific requirements.
